News — Dice Bag

This is exactly why I hunted down a good purple stain last year.  It's hardly ever requested but it's uniquely a color that can't be mixed at the bench.  I've tried.  A lot.  It's a chemistry/optics thing.  Anywho, ZERG!

This client has a greek-themed boardgame they're quite fond of and wanted a pouch to carry the pieces in.  It was a bit tricky duplicating the finer details of the emblems but I'm pretty happy with the final result.  I think this is the first time I used goatskin for the walls of a pouch (instead of suede) and it worked really well.

The client wanted to mark their grandson's graduation this year with a gift of silver dollars.  Of course, the coins needed an appropriate vessel!  The grandson's quite the viola player so we used the decorative swirls on his instrument to make a monogram of his initials.  The stain came out a little lighter than I hoped but it's the same bottle I used for my early dice bags so I know it'll age really well!

Dice Bags were some of my original patterns but I don't get to make them too often.  This one was a nice return to an old favorite in the middle of a lot of complicated projects. This happened to be the first project finished after I installed a backdrop over my photobooth.  The booth itself is great in a lot of ways but the staining came out more orange than I'd expected and that's always bugged me.  I'm not a huge fan of how the background affects the color in the photos.  This new backdrop will take some experimenting but...

These were two separate orders that just happened to come in around the same time.  They both used original designs.  The brown one was provided by the client and the green/silver design was something I drew up.
